Partnering with churches
Church Discipleship Ministry

Vision To see in the next decade, a disciplemaking culture of spiritual generations of labourers in the body of Christ, in Singapore and the neighbouring region. We will do this by actively promoting and facilitating the Intentional Disciplemaking Church Process.

Since 1990 he had been faithfully co-labouring with pastors and lay leaders creating awareness, training, teaching, and providing resources for disciplemaking in the churches. The Navigator leadership had always recognised that there was a need to pull together a team of like-minded, like-hearted men and women to come alongside Royston Koh, Church Discipleship Ministry (CDM) Director, in order to propel the work forward. It was only in 2004 that we saw long time prayers being answered. A fresh wind of change is sweeping through CDM. Led by Royston Koh, the team now comprises Navigator staff Mogan Mannar and Sita Shanmugam.

Historically, The Navigators have always been associated with “discipleship” and “disciplemaking.” When Navigator country opener Roy Robertson arrived in Singapore in 1962, he worked closely with churches and mission groups. Today a greater networking is taking place among churches. “By God’s grace, The Navigators have initiated an awareness of disciplemaking through trained alumni and the ministry of CDM since 1983,” says Royston. “There have been serious efforts by committed pastors like Rev Edmund Chan, Rev Jerry Ong and others to make disciplemaking the mainstay of their churches. A second wind has been initiated by Covenant Evangelical Free Church in the nineties to motivate the Body of Christ to start ‘Intentional Disciplemaking Churches.’

By God’s grace, our team hopes to help churches realise their vision of becoming disciplemaking churches.”

Reaching regions beyond Singapore

The Asian Church Disciplemaking Conference saw more than 70 delegates from over 15 countries gathering together to discuss intentional disciplemaking. Shared one delegate from India, This conference was a real spiritual encouragement to me. It has put a seal on what we are doing in India. It has given me wisdom to do Church Discipleship Ministry more effectively. I am encouraged by the encouragement from the Body of Christ at ACDC. The event was held at the Gallery Hotel Singapore from 11 to 15 October 2004.

“I thank God for the Navigator ministry, and the study guides and follow up material. I got hold of the 2:7 Series and started it with the leaders. It gave them the booster they needed, reminding them first and foremost of their devotion and walk with the Lord. We now have leaders who can disciple others.” - Rev Lee Yam Kai, Methodist Church of the Incarnation
