On witnessing

In a recent interview with The Christian Post, Singapore Edition, Navigator Missions Director Yap Kim Meng notes that increasingly moderns are looking at the message Christians are communicating through their lives.
His point was that success in witnessing today is linked to demonstrating the practical relevance of the Christian faith.

Kim Meng gave an example of how Christians could apply their faith at the workplace. Suppose there is a colleague who shares that his son is sick or sitting for his primary school leaving examinations. Most followers of any non-Christian religion would not hesitate to introduce their gods as a means of spiritual support, he said.
Most Christians, however, would tend to be silent, he said.
“Why can’t we turn around and say, ‘I pray to Jesus, Jesus is who I believe in, and when I am in trouble I pray to Jesus and He answers my prayer.” Christians tend to be more ‘defensive’ today, the former army captain noted.

Serving in his courts

“By perseverance the snail reached the ark.” – Charles H. Spurgeon
This is a great year for me and my girls in the volleyball scene. After all the hard work we’ve put in, all the perspiration, all the tears, all the effort, all the sacrifices, and all the constraints – we finally achieved the goals we set for ourselves: to be East Zone Schools champions and to be in the National Schools top four spot.
Watching my girls jump for joy after clinching the championship title and then seeing their wide grins when they received the medals at the National Schools Award Ceremony were the most satisfying sightsfor me.
Out of the blue and out of fun, I was touched when they all placed their medals around my neck and passed me the trophy.
In April this year, The NavTeens and other Navigator student ministries (Singapore Poly, Ngee Ann Poly, and ITE) organised a combined Good Friday evangelistic event. About 200 teens,Navigator staff and volunteer labourers came. I supervised a group of young labourers who organised the event.
It was great to see them learn from their mistakes, coping with constraints and becoming more realistic in their planning. There were two opportunities during the event to share the gospel with the non-believers. God gave us five teens who prayed to receive Christ.
I had the opportunity to invite ten of my volleyball players to enjoy the fun. During the course of the day I was able to share the gospel with them. I asked one of the girls, a brilliant student: “Do you know what you believe in and why you believe in it?” I know that she is very open to the gospel and very close to inviting Jesus into her life, but she is afraid to rock the boat in her family. For the believers, I challenged them in their belief and relationship with God. –by Wong Kia Yuan, staff, The NavTeens

Beyond Singapore

Navigator staff members, labourers, and students from Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore embarked on “Courageous Faith,” a three-week trip to the Philippines, beginning today.
The students will have daily devotion, Bible studies, listening to messages, participate in a feeding programme to the kids, and sharing their faith through conversations and services to the community in Los Baños, Laguna.
The NavTeens (TNT) are also challenged to go beyond their comfort zone and commit themselves to a new initiative.
Come 12-19 June, almost 20 of them will make a trip to the Philippines. The trip is a culmination of a four-year- training programme when 10 new labourers (18 to 23 years old) will graduate and be added to TNT volunteer labourer workforce.
They will visit the Navigator ministry in the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, relate with families from a nearby village, participate in a feeding programme to the poor children, and reach out to high schoolers in the area through activities and tutoring.
Navigator Singapore staff member William Tew and his wife Jonalyn are based in Los Baños, Laguna where they have been working in partnership with the local team to pioneer the high school and community ministry.

“Are you KLIP-ing?”
Posted on April 19, 2010 | Filed Under Discipleship, Evangelism, Ministries, News
Whee Khee: “Hey, are you KLIP-ing? Student: “Yay yay… I am KLIP-ing!”
“A simple answer like this just makes my day! Many students are making the effort to adjust their busy schedule so that they can KLIP and get serious with God,” said Lee Whee Khee, staff trainee, National University of Singapore (NUS) Navigators.
KLIP (Kingdom Labourers in Progress) aims to help students grow in their walk with Christ and learn to share their faith, establishing them in Christ and discipling them.
Twelve students, twice the number they expected, signed up and committed themselves to having a regular quiet time, keeping a prayer journal, memorising 24 Topical Memory System (TMS) verses, meeting with fellow KLIPer(s) for an hour weekly, witnessing for Christ, developing an Evangelism Prayer List, and learning different ways of evangelism.
“It is a step of faith for our NUS students because they have heavy study loads. One of them is in third year medicine. It is exciting for us to see their desire to obey God and want to grow in their walk with Christ by making themselves available and wanting to be used by God!” Peter Yim, NUS Navigator Director, said.
The KLIP-ers will even go beyond the shores of Singapore. The team will go to the Philippines for a three-week Summer Training Program in May this year. They will be getting more training in spiritual disciplines and evangelism, character development, and serving alongside the Philippine Navigators in the slum communities of Los Baños.
“Being away from home allows the students to stay focused as we increase the tempo of KLIP, helping them to develop world vision and a heart for people beyond Singapore,” Whee Khee said.

Youtubies Tribes

“I’m a youth worker in this strange land where the young people of this land communicate with a strange tribal language…I struggle how to connect, how to communicate that I care and only want to help. They seem hopeless and lost…But I decided to try and try again. Many times I feel like a fool…but I’m not giving up! My reward is that if even one of them is saved it’s worth the effort.”
