2:7 Series continues

After 25 years, we thought that the Navigator 2:7 Series had seen its usefulness. We were ready to send it to cold storage. But we are astounded to see that it continues to be relevant with today’s generation of believers, cutting across national and cultural boundaries – from sophisticated Singapore to rural China as well as to tribal region of India.
The Navigator 2:7 Series is a lay training course used in more than 60 countries around the world to help Christians become mature disciples of Jesus Christ. One of the churches in Singapore that has been promoting it is the Barker Road Methodist Church (BRMC). They conduct a year-long Growing Deep in Christ (GDIC) programme, with the 2:7 Series as part of its core curriculum.
“I’m so overwhelmed and overjoyed to see so many of our church members completing GDIC!” said Chay Swee Hwa, who started the programme in BRMC in 2003. It was not the completion of a course that moved her but the lives transformed by the Word of God.
“Before attending the Navigator class, I hardly read the Bible. But since going through the course I have been reading it every day. Young Christians will benefit from the various practical tools for Christian living. For more mature Christians, it will serve as a good refresher.” – Lee Kwai Peng
“For a 64-year-old, it was really difficult when I first started memorising Scripture verses. I prayed and asked God for help. Now I really enjoy it as I have found them to be tremendously useful in my Christian walk. I encourage all new Christians like me to go through the Navigators 2:7 series.” – Judy Kiang

The 99 in Chennai
Posted on December 27, 2009 | Filed Under Asia and Beyond, Church Discipleship Ministries, News
Only about 2.7% of India’s 1.3 billion population are believers of Christ. Even though Christianity has been in India for a long time, churches are not really growing. Church leaders are seeing the urgency to establish disciple-making churches.
Bishop Devasahayam of Church of South India (CSI) Madras, the largest denomination in South India, called 99 full-time ministers, principals and teachers of schools, evangelists, catechists, Bible women, lay preachers, youth and hostel wardens for a four-day Discipleship Training Conference last 15-18 October 2009.
Sensing the need for greater depth and leadership development, the Bishop sought help from the Navigators for the equipping of his pastors, evangelists and Bible teachers.
This conference has been twenty years in the making after a long history of relating and networking. Devasahayam, then a young seminary lecturer together with a handful of other young men sat under the tutelage of Job Jeyaraj ploughing faithfully through the Navigator discipleship training course. Later Devasahayam became the highly esteemed and loved Bishop of CSI.
Job Jeyaraj, the conference convener wrote: “God has done wonderful things… the Disciplemaking Conference was a mountain-top experience. God used Dr Jebaraj Samuel mightily. Royston Koh and his wife Jade (Singapore), Frank Tully (Boston) and Denny Repko (California) were the resource persons. The three books of the 2:7 series were the tools used. Frank Tully did an excellent job and Denny Repko was a great inspiration. Royston Koh was also equally contributing. The spirit of the Lord was moving and he was mightily at work.”
“This conference is one of the most effective conferences ever held. The Bishop extended invitation to the resource persons to come again to help. The participants have returned to their respective places full of enthusiasm to disciple men and women. The seeds have been sown and it is our prayer that they will sprout, get routed and grow and bear fruits. People have assured to water and keep the plant alive. It is our hope that God will bless the church with a very rich harvest.” - by Royston Koh, Church Discipleship Ministry, The Navigators, Singapore

Knowing God: Theology Made Relevant In Discipleship Today
Posted on May 7, 2009 | Filed Under Church Discipleship Ministries, Discipleship, News
IDMC Conference 2009
by Rev. Edmund Chan, Senior Pastor
If theology is defined simply as “knowing God”, then theology is for everyone!
Theology is not just for professional theologians or pastors. Theology is for everyone. And whether we realise it or not, everyone has a theology. Because every rational person has a personal view of God. The important question is, do we cultivate a biblical view of God? This is pertinent because our view of God actually defines the way we think and determines the way we live!
This IDMC Conference 2009 is for everyone. It is a wake-up call to develop depth in our understanding of God, intimacy in our relationship with God, and vitality in our discipleship in God. We can only pass on to others what we ourselves have experienced firsthand with God. Therefore, our hearts must be tutored to know God intimately.
May I therefore warmly invite you – and your staff team, your church leaders, your cell group members – to come join us for our IDMC Conference on 27-29 August 2009, at Covenant Evangelical Free Church (Woodlands Centre). Further details of the IDMC Conference 2009, including our promotional video, are available on our website: www.idmc.org.sg
We have a limited seating for about 2000 participants and so far, about 1600 have already signed up! We sincerely look forward to having you with us. Hence, for you, the Early Bird Registration will be extended from 30th April to 31st May 2009, so that you can enjoy the lower price for this year’s conference. See you there!

Be courageous and arise: Mike Treneer urged church pastors, elders
Posted on July 25, 2007 | Filed Under Church Discipleship Ministries, News
“I think one of the most tragic things that can happen to the work of God is when those of us who are charged with leadership, with responsibility for caring, for inspiring, for nurturing, and imparting vision and faith to the people of God lose our own bearing, our own courage, our own faith and adventure, and our willingness to take on the issues that confront us.”
Navigator International President Mike Treneer said during the Pastors’ Breakfast with Mike Treneer organized by the Church Discipleship Ministry at Quality Hotel last July 20. More than 40 pastors and elders representing about 30 churches in Singapore came.
