Remembering Roy Robertson

Posted on May 16, 2008 | Filed Under News, People

Roy Robertson, founder of The Navigators, Singapore, and many other Navigator works was called home to glory on 8 May 2008. His funeral service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 10 am in Texas.

When Roy’s first wife Lois passed away suddenly of an apparent brain aneurism in 1959, Roy wrote what now speaks of his own life and death:

“Humanly speaking, this death of our loved one is a great personal loss.
But through the eye of faith we know that this is not a tragedy.
I firmly believe that death is the crowning event in the life of the Christian.
Death is the time when the saints ‘rest from their labors,’
when they throw off the chains of sin and corruption
and step into the glorious liberty of heaven itself.
What a grand, glad day that will be
for all who have put their trust in Christ!”

View now this six-minute video tribute that will be screened during his funeral service. May our hearts rejoice at a life well lived. May we follow in his footsteps.

Navigator friends are invited to join us as we, The Navigators in Singapore, honour our Lord’s humble servant, and our leader. We will be observing a moment of silence at 11 p.m, Monday, May 19, Singapore time (the time of his funeral in Texas) to thank God for both Roy and Phyllis. We also remember and pray for their extended family and ministries during their time of grief.

What an honor and privilege to read of such a great testimony by Phyllis and Roy. It makes me so proud to be part of the Navigator family.

Thank you for this excellent tribute to Roy and Phylis. Like many others, I count them as my parents. Meeting Roy in 1986 changed my life as he challenged me to give my life for Christ and His Gospel. Living with and learning from Roy and Phyllis has been the greatest privilege of our lives. May all of us whom they taught continue to take the Gospel to the lost and raise up disicples and laborers to do the same until Christ comes. Praise God for the godly pattern these two have set for us.

Thank you for your kind invitation. Roy lived for his calling from God. He quoted Jesus to me once, “I have sent you to reap where others have sown.” He so believed this that he always expected to be where others had already sown the seed of the Gospel. Therefore, he expected to reap. And he did. I praise God for Roy’s example. Like Abel, “through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.” (Hebrews 11:4)

I pray that his legacy in Singapore will continue through all generations until our Lord returns.

I looked this up when I recently received a copy of the 75th Anniversary of the Navs book. I wondered what had happened to Roy Robertson. Susan was my roommate part of my time in Austin…I knew Janet also and their husbands. Little did I know that I would spend the last 23 years in places where their father ministered in Asia. Once, Mr. Robertson came to that part of the world on a visit and I got the priviledge of hosting him. What a special family!
